Unbeknownst to Andrew and I, Emily had written a new piece about a week ago called "Rainbow Weather." Introducing the song for the first time ever, Emily told the audience that our story was the inspiration for the song. I sobbed through the whole thing. It's a beautiful piece, and while we wish that she never had reason to write it, it was a pretty accurate testament to the experience.
With her permission, the lyrics are below.
RAINBOW WEATHER
The place is clean and kept
linoleum floor all swept
and all the people there around you
smile a tragic smile
cause they know you'd rather go
than be there, where they
take the tests, and try and tell you
this is all routine...
And it's looking like rainbow weather
the rain coming down
but you see the sun through the clouds
and all that you need is for something
to make you feel
cause you've got the right answer
you're just looking, to find
why
Week by Week go by
we watch the struggle in your eye
to smile and keep your spirits raised
while poison's in its second phase
and we don't have a clue
cause all this shit you're going through
is foreign but to you, to you...
And it's lookin like rainbow weather
the rain comin down
but you see the sun through the clouds
and all that you need is for something
to make you feel
cause you've got the right answer
you're just looking, to find
why
And we raise our hands and pray
please take this away
take this away, away, away, away
away, away, please take this
away...
Cause it's looking like rainbow weather
the rain coming down
but you see the sun through the clouds
and all that you need is for something
to make you feel
cause you've got the right answer
you're just looking, to find
why
that is beautiful
