Mom and Dad left today after getting in on July 2. Going to the Arrivals gate (though I got turned around and went through the car rental area) is always MUCH more fun than dropping them off at that damn Departure curb. It was a great visit. They said it was the best so far especially because it was more relaxing and definitely more comfortable at our house than on an air mattress on the living room floor of a 1 bedroom apartment. Good eats were cooked and as often happens the more seasoned Steins are the reigning cribbage champs.
Thursday was nice. Pegasus of course though the times they are a changin' and that tradition may go to the wayside for a closer stop at Red Hook. It was fun seeing the looks on their faces when we got to show them our home. Proud parents indeed - you could hear the buttons popping. Thursday night Jesson and Doug came over to make me a birthday dinner and a welcome dinner for my parents. It was definitely delicious and didn't take too long to clean the kitchen. The neighbors did tell us it sounded like we were having a good time (I guess it's a good thing we took the game of Catch Phrase in the house after 9:30). Jesson says that I have similar mannerisms and reactions as my dad and I definitely have mom's attitude. The spunk has to come from somewhere.
Friday we were up at the cabin and Sarah's dad always wanting to help others share in the beautiful PacNW scenery took dad and I down the Skykomish in kayaks. Great time other than that first spill with a few bumps and a little heart ache. We definitely slept nice after that full day in the sun.
By the time Saturday came it was time for those free loaders to earn their stay at this B&B so we did some yardwork. Thank you very much for the help and advice with that stuff. Trimming bushes, pulling weeds, cutting branches. 8 hands always work faster than 4. The fireworks were fun up in Anacortes.
Sunday and Monday were good relaxing days. Got some projects done, including my first lesson as a plumber installing new faucets in the master bath. And of course a hard days work always welcomes a smooth Crown at the end of the day (thanks again for that - it'll be out here for the next visit). We also introduced mom and dad to Cold Stone Creamery...and yes, that ice cream did come after another piece of red velvet cake that mom baked for her spoiled little son.
It was hard saying goodbye today. That is never a fun thing after spending good quality time together that sure does beat the phone, email, or webcam - though I wouldn't trade those in if it's all we have. Especially since I didn't have a busy day at work today it was a bit more difficult. I just really miss my family. The good news is they were already thinking of when they could come out again. Mom and Dad, the door is always open - you are more than welcome, far from obligated. We love you!
