Last Treatment

So we are here at group health infusion center for our LAST round of chemotherapy... Boy does that sound good. Andrew already got his pre-meds and his port is just hooked up to slow drip of normal saline as we wait for our final chemo concoction to arrive. Accessing the port with that big needle, being tethered to the IV tubing, and now tasting and smelling the harsh sterile poisonous agents as they are pumped in...certainly things that are no more enjoyable today than any other day. But at least today we can know that there will not be another repeated episode in 2 weeks. Next week is not just an off week but the first week of our new beginning. Yes there will still be scans and tests and doctor appointments, but our lives will no longer be dictated by the treatment schedule. We won't ever be the same people we were six months ago, and returning to 'normal' doesn't mean going back to our old lives or old routine. But we can now stop focusing so much on treatment and just getting through it and start discovering who we are now and how this has changed our lives.

After we're done with the infusion today we have a prenatal appointment. It will be a nice change of focus and a rather symbolic shift in focus from cancer to baby. In just over 3 months we will get to welcome our little boy or girl into the world. We are growing more and more excited every day as my belly grows too. It is so amazing to feel Pip moving and kicking. We continue to be amazed at how God blessed our lives with the perfect gift during such a frightening time when we were first given Andrew's diagnosis.
